I didn't set out to work with contractors.
When I lost my corporate job during COVID, I landed at Greystar where I handled the financial performance of a portfolio of multifamily communities. Some were brand new and needed to be leased up. Others were established properties generating between $3 million and $7 million a year.
Every property had different challenges, but one thing stayed consistent. The numbers were always a reflection of what was happening operationally.
Occupancy, collections, staffing, vendor relationships, communication, and execution all impacted financial performance. By the time a problem showed up in the financials, it had usually started somewhere else.
Working alongside contractors and vendors drove that lesson home. We were constantly waiting on invoices, chasing missing documentation, or hunting for the information needed to process payments. The work was already done, but the contractor couldn't get paid because something in their process broke down.
The more I paid attention, the more I realized cash flow problems are usually operational before they become financial.
A delayed invoice. A missed change order. Poor communication between the field and the office. Weak job costing. Small issues that look harmless on their own but eventually put real pressure on cash flow, profitability, and growth.
That realization changed the direction of my business.
Today, I work exclusively with roofers and general contractors, helping them understand how the decisions they make every day impact cash. My role isn't just to review financial statements. It's to help owners spot the disconnects between operations and the numbers so they can make better decisions, protect profit, and strengthen cash flow.
That philosophy became the foundation for The Cashflow Job™.
I believe every action in a business impacts cash, directly or indirectly. When contractors see those connections, they gain more control, more confidence in their decisions, and a clearer path to keeping the money they work so hard to earn.
Because I don't believe you were meant to build something this big and still feel broke.
